John Higgins v Noppon Saengkham live stream | World Championship 2022 preview
John Higgins is bidding to reach his first World Championship quarter-final in three years when he takes on Noppon Saengkham at the Crucible.
Although, he must overcome a player against whom he does not boast the greatest of records in recent times.
Indeed, Saengkham has won four of the last five meetings between the players, including a 5-2 victory in the German Masters qualifiers earlier this season.
Higgins will be desperate to stop the rot as he looks to avoid a third successive exit at this stage of snooker’s blue-riband event.
The four-time World champion endured a tough first-round encounter against another Thai opponent in Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, but overturned 4-2 and 6-5 deficits to eventually prevail a 10-7 winner.
The 46-year-old will hope for a much smother passage against Un-Nooh’s compatriot as he looks to prolong his 28th successive appearance at the Crucible.
But he knows not to take anything for granted against an inspired Saengkham, who is the only remaining qualifier in the draw.
The world number 38 enjoyed a double celebration earlier this week, completing an impressive 10-5 victory over Scottish Open champion Luca Brecel just a day after becoming a father for the first time to daughter Believe.
It was another brilliant scalp for Saengkham, who also eliminated 2005 Crucible king Shaun Murphy in the opening round two years ago.
And history beckons for the 29-year-old as he aims to become the first player from Thailand to reach the last eight at the spiritual home of snooker since James Wattana in 1997.
The winner will play either Neil Robertson or Jack Lisowski in the quarter-finals at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
Play gets underway at 10am BST on Sunday with the opening eight frames with another eight following at 7pm, before drawing to a conclusion at 1pm on Monday.
