Kyren Wilson is aiming to reach his seventh successive Crucible quarter-final when he locks horns with Stuart Bingham in Sheffield.

The Warrior has been the form player at snooker’s spiritual home in recent times, and is targeting another strong run in 2022.

Wilson was runner-up to Ronnie O’Sullivan in 2020, while it took an inspired Shaun Murphy turnaround to deny him a second straight final appearance 12 months ago.

The world number five will be full of confidence after coming through a hard-fought first-round clash with Ding Junhui.

Despite trailing 3-0, the Warrior battled away and eventually edged his nose in front at 8-7, before holding his nerve to prevail a 10-8 winner.

Wilson claimed a narrow 6-5 victory over Bingham at the Masters in January, while he won 13-10 when they faced off at this same stage at the Crucible five years ago.

The 2015 World champion was in fine scoring form during his 10-5 victory over Lyu Haotian in the opening round.

Aside from runs to the last four of the World Grand Prix and Gibraltar Open Quarter-Finals, ‘Ball Run’ has endured a fairly modest 2021-22 season.

Nevertheless, he hit a top break of 140 along the way against Lyu – the highest of the televised stages so far – and a further seven runs over 50.

A semi-finalist in 2021, in which he lost 17-15 to eventual champion Mark Selby, the world number 12 is now aiming to reach the last eight for only the second time since lifting the trophy seven years ago.

The winner will play either Judd Trump or Anthony McGill in the Quarter-Finals at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.

Play gets underway at 10am BST on Sunday with the opening eight frames with another eight following at 7pm, before drawing to a conclusion at 1pm on Monday.
