Mark Selby wary of Yan Bingtao threat: “He’s got the all-round package”
Mark Selby believes Yan Bingtao has the all-round package and a great future as they prepare to face off in the second round at the Crucible.
Two of the toughest competitors on the tour go head to head in what promises to be a hard-fought encounter in Sheffield.
Yan is aiming to dethrone the reigning World champion and progress to the quarter-finals of snooker’s blue-riband event for the first time.
The former Masters winner was in fine scoring form during his 10-6 victory over Chris Wakelin in round one; hitting two centuries and a further nine breaks over 50.
The world number 16 has prevailed in all three of his showdowns with Selby this season, including a 6-3 triumph at the Champion of Champions.
And the Jester knows he will have his work cut out against the Tiger.
“He’s got a fantastic temperament. He’s got an old head on young shoulders,” Selby said.
“I think he’s got the all-round package, which he’s shown over the last few years; winning the Masters at such a young age.
“The last two or three times we’ve played, he’s beaten me.
“I wouldn’t have thought my all-round game was as good as his at that age – and his composure on the big occasions.
“He doesn’t really show too much emotion, so he’s got a great future ahead as we’ve seen with what he’s achieved so far.”
