Anthony McGill v Si Jiahui live stream | World Snooker Championship 2023 preview
Qualifiers Anthony McGill and Si Jiahui face off for a place in the Semi-Finals of the 2023 World Snooker Championship.
The duo have defied the odds to reach the business end of this year’s show-piece and will now aim to keep their title hopes alive by reaching the one-table setup.
McGill has once again saved his best form for the biggest event of all, reaching the Quarter-Finals for the third time in his last four appearances.
Making his ninth consecutive Crucible appearance, the tenacious Scot had seen off John Astley and Cao Yupeng in the qualifying rounds, before knocking out 2019 World Champion Judd Trump 10-6 in Round One.
He then dispatched 12th seed Jack Lisowski 13-8, taking his tally of century breaks to four for the tournament in the process.
The 32-year-old is vying to reach the Semi-Finals for the second time, having notably done so in 2020 – when he was edged out by Kyren Wilson in a classic 33rd frame decider.
Si, on the other hand, is enjoying a dream debut campaign after winning three qualifying matches to clinch his first Crucible appearance.
The 20-year-old sensation saw off Florian Nüßle, Tom Ford and Jordan Brown to progress and showed no sign of nerves on the big occasion by defeating 2005 World Champion Shaun Murphy in a deciding frame in Round One.
The Chinese star then safely saw off Welsh Open champion Robert Milkins to continue his remarkable run, and the world number 77 is set to rocket up the rankings as a result of his exploits this month.
The youngster continues to fly the flag for China in this year’s World Championship and victory here would see him reach his first ranking event Semi-Final.
Si has won all three of his previous meetings with McGill by an aggregate score of 12 frames to four, including back-to-back 5-2 victories in the 2022 Turkish Masters and European Masters.
Their latest encounter gets under way from 2.30pm BST on Tuesday April 25 for a maximum of eight frames, resuming from 10am on Wednesday, before being played to a finish from 7pm that evening over the best of 25.
Either reigning and seven-time World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan or Belgian ace Luca Brecel will await the winner in the Semi-Finals on Thursday.
