Ronnie O’Sullivan confirms participation in 2025 World Snooker Championship
Ronnie O’Sullivan has confirmed that he will be participating in this year’s World Snooker Championship as he bids for a record eighth Crucible crown.
O’Sullivan has been out of competitive action since January – when he snapped his cue in frustration during the Championship League in Leicester.
The 49-year-old has featured in only a handful of ranking events this season, with his best run coming at the Xi’an Grand Prix last August – reaching the semi-finals.
O’Sullivan withdrew from The Masters, as well as five subsequent ranking events due to ‘medical reasons’, and his participation in the World Championship looked to be in doubt.
However, ‘The Rocket’ has told broadcaster TNT Sports that he will be heading to Sheffield to maintain his ever-present record in the sport’s showpiece event.
“I’m proud to continue my record of having never missed a World Championship,” said O’Sullivan.
“I have many fond memories at The Crucible and look forward to making more in 2025.
“I’ve enjoyed some good prep with my (new!) cue over the last week so feel good ahead of Tuesday.
“Before I’m at the table, I’ll be on the sofa for TNT Sports this Saturday and Sunday evening. I’m really looking forward to seeing the team again and having some fun.”
O’Sullivan has been drawn to face arch rival Ali Carter in the opening round, with the first session taking place on Tuesday afternoon.
O’Sullivan, who made his Crucible debut as a 17-year-old back in 1993, remains locked level on seven world titles alongside Stephen Hendry and is bidding to cement his place in the history books.
