Mark Selby will look to continue his perfect record over Wu Yize when the pair collide in the second round of the World Snooker Championship.

The last of the second-round matches to get under way represents a clash of styles, with the all-round quality of Selby facing the attacking brilliance of Wu.

The two players enjoyed the joint-most emphatic victories of the first round, both running out 10-2 winners against Jak Jones and Lei Peifan.

This is a fixture that been dominated by the Jester, who has won all six of their previous encounters – albeit four of those were in the Championship League.

Selby, who averted a third straight first-round Crucible exit with victory over Jones, is now targeting his 11th appearance in the World Championship quarter-finals.

The four-time champion was not at his clinical best in the opening round, but has constantly demonstrated his ability to grind out results on snooker’s biggest stage over the years.

And the 42-year-old has momentum with him this year following a season in which he has won the Champion of Champions, UK Championship and Championship League invitational event.

While Selby has been to six Crucible finals, his opponent is fresh from claiming his first ever match win in Sheffield.

Wu is appearing at snooker’s blue-riband event as a seed for the first time, after his breakthrough triumph at the International Championship catapulted him into the world’s top 16.

He marked the occasion with his maiden win in three attempts, hitting breaks of 116, 105, 93, 92, 85, 68, 67 and 58 during a demolition of compatriot Lei.

Wu will need to produce a similarly high-scoring display if he is to stand any chance of breaking his duck against Selby over the best of 25 frames.

Either 2019 World champion Judd Trump or Hossein Vafaei – the only remaining qualifier – awaits the winner of this clash in the quarter-finals.

The match breaks off at 10am BST at the Crucible Theatre on Sunday, continuing at 7pm, before playing to a finish at 1pm on Monday.
