Judd Trump looks to maintain his dominant recent record against Shaun Murphy in their blockbuster World Championship second-round encounter.

Two former Crucible kings go head to head on Sunday in what is arguably the tie of the round in Sheffield, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

The recent form book would make 2019 champion Trump a heavy favourite to prevail. After all, he has in each of the last seven meetings between the players.

Not only that, but the Ace has won 11 of the last 12 they have played – winning 5-1 at this season’s Northern Ireland Open and 6-0 at last month’s Players Championship.

Although, 2005 winner Murphy has the better of their head-to-head record at The Crucible, winning two of their previous three encounters by beating Trump on his 2007 debut and the 2021 quarter-finals.

The two players were among the standout performers of the first round, in which they both recorded 10-4 victories.

Trump made five centuries – taking his tally for the season to 98 – as he swept aside Zhou Yuelong. The Ace now requires two more to earn a bonus prize of £100,000.

Although, the forefront of his mind will be focused on securing an 11th Crucible quarter-final appearance – and seventh in the last eight years.

Meanwhile, it would be Murphy’s 10th and first since beating Trump 13-11 at that stage on his way to a fourth final four years ago.

The reigning Masters champion hit three tons on the way to beating debutant Daniel Wells, and will need his scoring boots once again in order to take down the world number one.

A showdown with either 2023 champion Luca Brecel or 2016 runner-up Ding Junhui awaits the winner of this best-of-25 clash in the quarter-finals.

The match breaks off at 10am BST on Sunday with the opening eight frames, continuing with a further eight at 7pm BST, before playing to a conclusion at 1pm BST on Monday at The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
