John Higgins v Mark Williams live stream | World Snooker Championship quarter-final preview
John Higgins and Mark Williams go head to head in a blockbuster World Championship quarter-final between two of snooker’s all-time greats.
Two members of the ‘Class of 92′ collide for a sixth time at The Crucible, where they have triumphed on a combined seven occasions, with a place in the one-table setup on offer to the winner.
The pair famously contested the epic 2018 final, in which Williams withstood Higgins’ fightback from 14-7 down to 15-15, before eventually prevailing 18-16 to lift his third World title.
The Welshman was also victorious in their semi-final meetings in 1999 and 2000 – going on to land his first crown in the latter year – as well as their most recent showdown in the 2021 second round.
Higgins’ sole triumph in Sheffield came in the semi-finals in 2011; the year he won the most recent of his four World titles.
The Wizard is appearing in his fourth successive Crucible quarter-final – and 19th overall – after battling past Xiao Guodong in round two.
Higgins led 12-10, but saw two match-winning opportunities go begging, as Xiao punished him to level at 12-12.
Nevertheless, the Scotsman maintained his superb record in deciding frames at The Crucible, where he has now won nine of 10 after getting himself over the line.
He now targets a 12th semi-final; the same tally as the number of quarter-finals in which Williams has now appeared.
Despite eyesight difficulties, the Welshman overcame Hossein Vafaei 13-10 in the second round, sealing the deal with a wonderful break of 115.
The 50-year-old now has an eighth appearance in the one-table setup in his sights, and will need to be at his best against a resurgent Higgins.
Either 2019 World Champion Judd Trump or 2023 World Champion Luca Brecel will await the winner in the semi-finals
The match breaks off at 10am BST on Tuesday with the opening eight frames, resuming at 7pm BST with a further eight, before playing to a conclusion at 10am BST on Wednesday at The Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
