Mark Williams v Yan Bingtao live stream | World Snooker Championship 2022 preview
Mark Williams aims to book his place in a seventh World Championship Semi-Final at the expense of Chinese sensation Yan Bingtao at The Crucible.
Veteran campaigner Williams, who made his Crucible debut 25 years ago, is into the Quarter-Finals for the third year in a row and the fifth time in his last six appearances.
The Welshman produced one of the stand-out performances of the First Round to thrash Michael White 10-3 with the aid of four centuries.
He then added a further six centuries on his way to a 13-3 demolition of his young protégé Jackson Page with a session to spare in the Last 16, meaning he has dropped the fewest frames of the remaining eight players so far.
Williams began the season by winning the British Open last August for his 24th career ranking title, and was beaten in the final of the Shoot Out earlier this year.
Semi-finalist at The Masters, the world number eight warmed up for this event by making two maximum breaks in one night in an exhibition and was involved in one of the matches of the season against Ronnie O’Sullivan at the recent Tour Championship – losing out 10-9 in the Quarter-Finals.
He now faces a tough test against world number 16 Yan – who is appearing in his first World Championship Quarter-Final at the fourth attempt.
The 2021 Masters Champion overcame Chris Wakelin 10-6 before dethroning reigning champion Mark Selby 13-10 to ensure he is the sole Chinese representative in the Last Eight.
Runner-up in this year’s German Masters, Yan is looking to remain in contention to become the first-ever Asian winner of the World Snooker Championship.
However, Yan has won just one of his five previous meetings with Williams and was beaten 6-4 by the ‘Welsh Potting Machine’ in the opening round of this year’s Masters at Ally Pally.
The match gets under way from 10am BST on Tuesday April 26 for a maximum of eight frames, resuming from 7pm that evening before being played to a finish over the best of 25 frames from 2.30pm on Wednesday.
Either 2019 World Champion Judd Trump or 2015 World Champion Stuart Bingham will await the winner in the Semi-Finals.
