Attacking superstars Judd Trump and Jimmy White face off in the Third Round of the 2023 WST Classic in Leicester on Tuesday.

A clash of the generations sees two of the sport’s most exciting left-handers lock horns at the Morningside Arena, with White bidding to register his first victory over Trump.

Trump has prevailed in each of their five previous meetings and has won 19 of the 26 frames contested in the process.

The world number five has endured a below-par season in ranking competition by his standards, with his only final to date coming at the World Grand Prix in January – where he was beaten by Mark Allen.

Trump, however, did secure his second Masters title at Alexandra Palace just a week prior and will be determined to become the first name on the new trophy this week.

Trump has registered successive 4-1 wins over David Lilley and Wu Yize en route to the Last 32, becoming only the third player in snooker history to compile 900 centuries along the way.

White, meanwhile, has continued his superb run of form this season and is closing in on a place in the world’s top 64 as he looks to retain his Tour Card outright.

The 60-year-old has rolled back the years once again, defeating 2006 World Champion Graeme Dott 4-2, before edging out last year’s Welsh Open champion Joe Perry in a deciding frame on Sunday with a high break of 132 to his name.

White won four qualifying matches to reach the main stages of the UK Championship last November, eventually losing out to Ryan Day in the Last 32, and also secured two qualifying wins to reach the German Masters – where he was eventually denied by Jack Lisowski in the Last 16.

With the World Championship qualifiers just weeks away, ‘The Whirlwind’ will look to gather further momentum by pulling off a major upset against a player who has long been compared to a younger version of himself.

The match gets under way from 10am GMT and will be contested over the best of seven frames, with either Si Jiahui or Pang Junxu awaiting the winner in the Last 16.
