Si Jiahui v Xiao Guodong live stream | Wuhan Open 2024 Final preview

Si Jiahui goes head to head with Xiao Guodong as the two home favourites do battle in the Wuhan Open final on Saturday.

A first-time ranking event winner will be crowned at the China Optics Valley Convention & Exhibition Center (COVCEC), where a top prize of £140,000 is up for grabs, as well as a place in next month’s Champion of Champions.

It is only the third ranking final to be contested by two Chinese players. Ironically, Xiao featured in one of the previous two, when he did battle with Ding Junhui in the 2013 Shanghai Masters showpiece.

The two players have produced a combined 12 centuries this week, while taking out three World champions along the way.

Si produced the best break of the lot courtesy of his wonderful 147 against Judd Trump in the semi-finals.

The world number 13, who had already beaten the likes of Martin O’Donnell and Zhang Anda earlier in the week, had never beaten Trump in six previous attempts, including a 10-5 defeat in last season’s German Masters final.

However, he stopped the rot with a scintillating display, during which he also hit breaks of 144, 108, 81, 71 and 61 to dethrone the reigning champion and reach his second ranking showpiece.

Xiao was also in fine scoring form in the last four, and all the more impressively considering his back was against the wall.

The world number 29 was 4-1 down against the week’s surprise package in world number 70 Long Zehuang.

But having hit three successive centuries against Shaun Murphy during a week that has also defeated reigning World champion Kyren Wilson and Barry Hawkins, Xiao roared back with breaks of 130, 112 and 91 as he reeled off the next five frames.

Runner-up at the 2013 Shanghai Masters and 2017 Shoot Out, he will now be hoping to make it third time lucky in a ranking final, which will be contested over the best of 19 frames on Saturday.

Play gets under way at 7am BST (2pm local time) with the opening nine frames, before resuming at 12.30pm (7.30pm local time) with a maximum of 10 at the COVCEC.
