Wuhan Open 2025 Draw | Defending champion Xiao to play Mink

Reigning champion Xiao Guodong will take on World Women’s number one Mink Nutcharut in the qualifying rounds for this season’s Wuhan Open.

Xiao enjoyed the highlight of his career last October by claiming his maiden ranking title after defeating compatriot Si Jiahui 10-7 in the final.

It was a breakthrough season for the Chinese, who also reached the Champion of Champions final and a further three ranking semi-finals on his way to climbing into the world’s top 16 for the first time.

The first match of his title defence pits him against 2022 World Women’s champion Mink, who reached her fourth final a fortnight ago – losing to Bai Yulu in the showpiece for the second year running.

That contest is one of eight heldover to the main venue in Wuhan at the end of August.

Another sees Zhao Xintong play one of his first matches as reigning World champion against Ukraine’s Iulian Boiko.

Meanwhile, Ronnie O’Sullivan has been drawn to face Allan Taylor, as world number one Judd Trump goes up against Farakh Ajaib.

More star names will be involved in the main qualifying event at the Mattioli Arena in Leicester between June 22-24.

They include four-time World champion John Higgins, who takes on Huang Jiahao, with Kyren Wilson and Mark Williams playing new professionals in Connor Benzey and Chatchapong Nasa respectively.

Neil Robertson and Shaun Murphy also face new opponents. Robertson will play WSF World Junior champion Leone Crowley, and Murphy locks horns with 14-year-old Michal Szubarczyk.

The same can be said of Ali Carter, with the 2023 Wuhan Open runner-up playing Austria’s first professional in Florian Nuessle, while Mark Selby goes up against the returning Alexander Ursenbacher, and Barry Hawkins takes on former Shoot Out runner-up Julien Leclercq.

Crowd favourites Jimmy White and Ken Doherty – both appearing via Invitational Tour Cards – will go head to head with Anthony McGill and Ben Woollaston respectively.
