Teenage sensation Stan Moody resumes his maiden World Championship campaign when he takes on Zhang Anda in the second qualifying round.

The 16-year-old is just three matches away from becoming the youngest player to ever qualify for The Crucible.

Although, he faces a tricky test in three-time qualifier Zhang, who is battling for tour survival at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.

Mentored by 2005 Crucible king Shaun Murphy, Moody is set for his first crack as a professional next season after winning the WSF World Junior Championship to earn a two-year card.

The youngster from Halifax showed glimpses of his exciting burgeoning talent at last season’s Shootout, where his exploits drew widespread praise from the likes of six-time World finalist Jimmy White.

And he certainly embraced his World Championship bow on Monday, making breaks of 110, 90, 86 and 72 on the way to a 10-7 victory over Andres Petrov.

While Moody will have the freedom to express himself once more in the second qualifying round, the same cannot be said of his opponent with Zhang needing results to preserve his professional status.

The Chinese cueist has qualified for the Crucible on three occasions – most recently seven years ago – notably giving Stephen Hendry a scare on his debut in 2010, leading 9-7 before the seven-time World champion eventually prevailed in a deciding frame.

But the world number 68 requires a timely upturn in fortunes if he is to book his place in the main stages of snooker’s blue-riband event and, more importantly, extend his tour card.

The winner of this best of 19 encounter will play Xiao Guodong in the third qualifying round of this year’s World Championship.

Play gets underway at 2.30pm BST on Wednesday with the opening nine frames, before concluding with a maximum of 10 from the same time the following day.
