Ronnie O’Sullivan v Mark Williams live stream | Masters Snooker 2023 preview
Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Williams go head to head in a mouth-watering Masters quarter-final at Alexandra Palace on Thursday.
The last eight commences with a blockbuster class-of-92 clash – and what will be the 50th meeting in all competitions between two players boasting a combined 53 Masters appearances – with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
Neutrals will be hoping for a similar contest to their most recent showdown at last season’s Tour Championship, with O’Sullivan prevailing 10-9 in a high-quality encounter that produced six centuries and a further 10 breaks over 50.
Both of their previous Masters clashes have also gone to the wire with the Rocket winning 6-5 in the 2010 semi-finals and 2016 first round.
O’Sullivan is now aiming to record his seventh straight win over Williams (excluding the Championship League) and secure a 15th semi-final appearance at snooker’s most prestigious invitational event.
The seven-time champion hit back-to-back centuries during his commanding 6-1 victory over Luca Brecel in the first round, though he was fortunate to profit from multiple untimely errors from the lacklustre Belgian.
And he will now look to avoid a first loss against Williams since his 6-5 reverse at this stage of the 2014 International Championship.
Appearing in his 15th quarter-final, the two-time winner is eyeing only a sixth semi-final appearance and second in succession at Ally Pally, where he suffered a heart-breaking 6-5 defeat to eventual champion Neil Robertson 12 months ago.
Despite an unexpected battle with a wasp, the Welshman also hit consecutive tons in the opening round, as well as producing a break of 95 and two nerveless clearances to snatch frames on the black in his 6-2 success over David Gilbert.
A semi-final showdown with either Jack Lisowski or Hossein Vafaei awaits the winner of this eagerly anticipated contest.
Play gets underway at 1pm GMT with the match contested over the best of 11 frames at Alexandra Palace.
