Trump trounces Williams as Robertson routs Wilson in Riyadh
Judd Trump roared into the Riyadh Season Snooker Championship semi-finals, following a 4-0 rout of Mark Williams on Thursday.
The Ace took just 48 minutes to complete a commanding whitewash of the three-time World champion, who edged him out 4-3 at the same stage of last season’s event.
Trump, reverting to his old cue after speaking of his dissatisfaction with his new one, hit back-to-back centuries on the way to outscoring his opponent by 332 points to 20.
The world number one, who famously edged out Williams on the black in their epic 2024 Saudi Arabia Masters final, won a couple of scrappy frames, before sprinting over the line with breaks of 100 and 102.
Trump set up a semi-final showdown with Zhao Xintong, who beat Shaun Murphy 4-2, and what will be a repeat of their clash at the same stage of last week’s Champion of Champions.
The World champion found himself behind after breaking down on 49 in the opening frame, enabling Murphy to counter clear with 79 to draw first blood.
Whoever won the opening frame had gone on to prevail in all seven previous matches this week, but Zhao responded with 62 to swiftly level.
He then produced a brilliant 69 clearance to snatch frame three on the black, after Murphy had missed a black off the spot on 57.
The Magician, who reeled off eight frames without reply on Wednesday, responded in superb fashion with a break of 101, though a 73 moved Zhao to the brink of victory.
Murphy threatened to force a decider, but broke down on 40 in frame six, and the Cyclone calmly cleared in trademark fashion with 88 to seal his place in the last four.
Earlier in the day, Neil Robertson was also a dominant 4-0 winner, the Thunder wrapping up his 4-0 whitewash of Kyren Wilson in only 43 minutes.
The Thunder also produced back-to-back tons of 100 and 133, while further contributions of 88 and 76 helped him outscore the Warrior by 421 points to 26.
Next up for the reigning Saudi Arabia Masters champion will be Mark Allen, who reeled off the final three frames from 2-1 down to beat John Higgins 4-2.
