The snooker season returns to UK soil for the 2026 British Open, and you can follow the latest results and schedule of play here.

After three successive tournaments in China, the world’s best players are back on home shores at The Centaur in Cheltenham, where the event will take place between August 31 and September 6 with a top prize of £100,000 at stake.

This will be the sixth consecutive edition of the tournament, which was initially a mainstay on the tour between 1980 and 2004, since it returned to the calendar in 2021.

Unlike most events, there is a random draw ahead of every round, meaning anyone can play anyone and there is no protection for the world’s top players.

All players outside the world’s top 16, whose matches were heldover to the main venue, came through a qualifier in Leicester last month.

Shaun Murphy is the reigning champion after beating Anthony McGill 10-7 in last year’s final.

The Magician is aiming to become a multiple winner of this tournament, along with four-time champion John Higgins and three-time victor Mark Williams, who will be among the players trying to stop him.

Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Allen have withdrawn from the event, but the rest of the world’s best players will be on display this week.

They include new world number one Zhao Xintong and World champion Wu Yize, as well as 2024 British Open winner Mark Selby.

Judd Trump starts his mission to regain top spot in the WST rankings, while world number two Neil Robertson looks to close the gap on Zhao at the summit, and Kyren Wilson looks to progress beyond the British Open last 16 for the first time.

All matches up to and including the last 16 are contested over the best of seven frames, with the quarter-finals the best of nine, the semi-finals best of 11, and final best of 19.
