Wu Yize goes head to head with Kyren Wilson in a mouth-watering second-round clash at the British Open on Tuesday.
The standout tie of the round in Cheltenham sees the reigning World champion and the defending Masters champion face off at The Centaur.
The head-to-head between two of the three most recent Crucible kings has been dominated by Wilson. The Warrior has won three of the four previous meetings, including a dramatic 6-5 victory in the semi-finals at Alexandra Palace earlier this year.
However, Wu did manage to stop the rot with a 5-2 win at the World Open in March, and he will look to make it back-to-back successes in his first event on UK soil since that epic Crucible triumph.
Despite reaching the Shanghai Masters semi-finals, the Lanzhou Lion suffered an early exit at the hands of Artemijs Zizins in Wuhan, and another looked on the cards in Cheltenham.
Wu surged into a 3-0 lead in his heldover match against compatriot Liu Hongyu, but was taken a deciding frame, in which he just about held his nerve to scrape over the line.
The world number three knows he must improve here if he is to reach the last 32 at the British Open for the first time.
Wilson does not boast a particularly memorable record at this event either, having never previously progressed beyond the round of 16 – reaching that stage as defending World champion in 2024.
The Warrior, who fell at the last-64 hurdle after defeat by Stan Moody 12 months ago, has endured a mixed start to this season.
Utilising a new cue after persistent troubles hampered last term, Wilson reached the Shanghai Masters final after he was forced to withdraw from the Championship League when his house was burgled.
However, a comprehensive 6-1 defeat by eventual champion Mark Selby in the China Open last 16 was followed by a 5-4 reverse in his Wuhan opener against Ali Carter.
Though far from his fluent best, Wilson avoided back-to-back first-round exits on Monday, with a break of 65 helping him to a 4-1 win over Florian Nuessle.
The match breaks off at around 2pm BST on Tuesday and will be contested over the best of seven frames at The Centaur in Cheltenham.
