Judd Trump locks horns with Mark Allen in a blockbuster British Open quarter-final clash at The Centaur in Cheltenham on Friday.
The two best left-handers in the world go head to head for a place in the semi-finals, with the winner certain to fancy their chances of lifting the Clive Everton trophy this weekend.
Interestingly, Allen has prevailed in three of the four most recent meetings between the players.
That includes a narrow 4-3 victory in the last 16 at this event two years ago, where he was runner-up to Ryan Day, while the Pistol also triumphed in the World Grand Prix and Champion of Champions finals of 2023.
Allen produced the magic moment of the week so far during his last-32 clash with Ben Mertens on Thursday, compiling the fourth 147 of his career on the way to a 4-1 win. Although, the world number three then had to dig deep to battle past Chris Wakelin at 1.30am (BST) later that day.
The Pistol is appearing in his second successive quarter-final, though his solid form is nothing compared with Trump’s blistering start to the season.
The Ace has already captured silverware at the Shanghai Masters and inaugural Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters, and has now won 22 of his 24 matches this term.
World number one Trump began the week with a 4-1 victory over Robert Milkins, while a trio of 4-2 wins over Day, Mark Davis and Stephen Maguire have helped secure his place in a first British Open quarter-final – and 96th in any ranking event.
If both players bring their A-game then neutrals will be treated to a cracking contest, in which they can expect exceptional attacking play and heavy scoring.
Speaking of which, Trump is just one century away from joining Ronnie O’Sullivan and John Higgins in the 1,000 club.
The match gets under way at 7pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of nine frames at The Centaur in Cheltenham.
