Judd Trump locks horns with Ali Carter on Saturday in a battle of former champions in this year’s German Masters semi-finals.
The two players have won a combined five German Masters crowns, and are both within just two more wins of adding to their silverware haul at the Tempodrom in Berlin.
It is 10 years since their sole previous meeting at this event, with Trump running out a commanding 5-0 winner in the last 32.
Although, Carter has won three of the last four meetings between the players, with all those victories coming in matches contested over the best of 11 frames.
The most successful player in German Masters history, three-time champion Trump is gearing up for his sixth semi-final, and 72nd in all ranking tournaments.
After back-to-back whitewashes of Ka Wai Cheung and Ryan Day, the Ace defeated Si Jiahui 5-2 in a rerun of the 2024 final, in which he won his most recent title.
Trump was given a scare by Xiao Guodong in the quarter-finals, but overturned a 3-2 deficit by winning the final three frames to progress to the last four.
Meanwhile, Carter is set to appear in his first ranking semi-final of the season at the venue where he triumphed in 2013 and 2023.
The Captain has prevailed in each of the three last-four ties he has contested at the German Masters, including in 2017 when he finished as runner-up to Anthony Hamilton.
Carter has already defeated two former World champions this week in Ronnie O’Sullivan and Stuart Bingham, as well as whitewashing Xu Si 5-0 in the last 16.
A showdown with Shaun Murphy awaits the winner of this clash in Sunday’s final.
The match breaks off at 7pm GMT on Saturday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Tempodrom in Berlin.
