Mark Selby and Barry Hawkins lock horns for the third time this season when they clash in the Players Championship first round on Wednesday.
The two good friends go head to head at the Telford International Centre for the right to face Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals.
They shared their first two meetings this season. Hawkins was a 6-4 winner in the European Masters semi-finals on the way to lifting the trophy, though Selby exacted his revenge on the final pink in the UK Championship second round.
Both players will be desperate for a strong run this week, having both endured slow starts to 2024.
The Jester is hoping this is the week he finally ends his wait for that long overdue ITV-televised title.
He came agonisingly close at the British Open in October, losing out to Mark Williams, while he has also reached the semi-finals at the European Masters and Shanghai Masters this season.
The four-time World champion is now looking to progress beyond the quarter-finals at the Players Championship for the first time.
Although, he faces a player that was runner-up at this event to Neil Robertson in 2022, having been a beaten semi-finalist 12 months earlier.
The Hawk is back in the elite 16-man field after missing out last year, having built on his European Masters triumph with runs to the last four of the Northern Ireland Open and Champion of Champions.
Play gets under way at 1pm GMT on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Telford International Centre.
