Mark Williams goes head to head with Si Jiahui in the second Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters semi-final in Riyadh on Friday.

We are set for a battle of youth versus experience at the Green Halls, where the three-time World champion collides with the newest member of the world’s top 16.

The pair met at the Crucible earlier this year with Si prevailing a narrow 10-9 winner, while Williams was a 3-0 victor at this season’s Championship League.

Si certainly has plenty of momentum following a hugely impressive 6-4 victory over Ronnie O’Sullivan in the quarter-finals.

The 22-year-old made breaks of 87 and 96 on the way to a 5-2 lead, and though he was pegged back to 5-4, he held his nerve to seal the win with a timely 82.

It was a victory with significant implications for Si, who has also defeated Jimmy White, Graeme Dott, Tom Ford and Pang Junxu this week.

Not only is he guaranteed £100,000 – the joint-biggest pay day of his young career – but it saw him climb into the world’s top 16 for the first time.

While Si gears up for only his third ranking semi-final, it is the 66th such match of Williams’ illustrious career.

The three-time World champion has prevailed on 41 of the 65 previous occasions he has appeared at this stage of a ranking tournament.

And Williams has got better as this week has progressed. After scraping past Thepchaiya Un-Nooh 5-4 in his opener, the Welshman defeated Stuart Bingham 6-2 before whitewashing Jimmy Robertson 6-0, sealing the rout with a superb 133 total clearance.

The winner of this match will play either Judd Trump or Shaun Murphy in Saturday’s inaugural Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters final.

The match gets under way at 6pm BST (8pm local time) on Friday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Green Halls in Riyadh.
