Mark Selby begins his quest to complete a hat-trick of Scottish Open titles against Stuart Carrington in Edinburgh on Tuesday.

The Jester is the joint-most successful player in the history of this event, joining Gary Wilson in lifting the Stephen Hendry trophy on two occasions.

Selby reigned in Edinburgh in 2019, before retaining his crown in Milton Keynes the following year for the third of his four Home Nations triumphs.

The four-time World champion has already won the British Open this season, while he was a semi-finalist at the Shoot Out in Leicester last weekend.

World number 77 Carrington provides his first opponent, with the Grimsby cueist aiming to reach the last 32 of a ranking event for the first time this term.

Neil Robertson and Luca Brecel are the other former winners in action on day two. Robertson, champion in 2017, takes on Fan Zhengyi, while Brecel plays Julien Leclercq as the 2021 victor desperately bids to kick-start his poor 2024-25 campaign.

Elsewhere, reigning World and Northern Ireland Open champion Kyren Wilson starts his quest for a third trophy of the season when he goes up against David Grace, as Ding Junhui and 2018 finalist Shaun Murphy face Mark Davis and Daniel Wells respectively.

Noppon Saengkham – runner-up here 12 months ago – takes on Ricky Walden, with recently crowned Shoot Out champion Tom Ford playing Poland’s Antoni Kowalski.

Jack Lisowski faces former Welsh Open champion Jordan Brown and last year’s Scottish Open semi-finalist Zhou Yuelong locks horns with Yuan Sijun, while another all-Chinese battle pits Si Jiahui against Ma Hailong.

Robert Milkins and Jackson Page go head to head in what promises to be a rapid encounter as home favourite Stephen Maguire plays Matthew Selt, with Hossein Vafaei and Pang Junxu taking on Lei Peifan and Dean Young respectively.

Play gets under way at 10am GMT on Tuesday with all matches contested over the best of seven frames at Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh.
