Jimmy White looks to record successive victories when he locks horns with Dominic Dale in the Scottish Open third round on Thursday.

The Whirlwind has endured a difficult start to the 2023-24 season and arrived in Edinburgh having won just one of his 13 matches so far.

That sole victory was his 4-3 success from 3-1 down against Duane Jones in the qualifying round for this tournament.

White had failed to win any match in the last five editions of the Scottish Open prior to that.

Nevertheless, he followed it up with a dramatic late-night victory over Jimmy Robertson on Tuesday, clearing the colours to prevail on the final black after the European Masters champion went in-off.

The 10-time ranking event winner is now set to clash with Dale, who he thumped 6-1 to qualify for the final stages of last year’s UK Championship.

The Spaceman also came through a deciding frame in the second round, with a timely fluke seeing him past compatriot Jamie Jones.

A quarter-finalist at last week’s Shoot Out, Dale will be eager to build on that momentum and match his best Scottish Open performance, having also reached the last 16 in 2016.

Aside from the Shoot Out, it would also mark his first venture to that stage of a conventional ranking event since the 2021 German Masters.

White shades the head-to-head record 6-5 stretching back to their first meeting in the last 32 at the 1994 British Open, which he won 5-2.

The winner of this match will play either Zhou Yuelong or Andrew Higginson in the last 16 of the Scottish Open.

The match gets under way from around 3pm GMT on Thursday and will be contested over the best of seven frames at the Meadowbank Sports Centre in Edinburgh.
