Judd Trump locks horns with Wu Yize on Saturday in what promises to be a blockbuster Shenzhen Open semi-final showdown.
Following Yuan Sijun’s dramatic victory over Jimmy Robertson earlier in the day, Trump and Wu do battle for the right to face him in Sunday’s showpiece at Bao’an Sports Centre.
The locals are set for a mouth-watering contest between the former world number one and the reigning World champion.
Trump was a 10-6 winner when they met at this stage of the Shanghai Masters, which he went on to capture, and he will hope that proves a positive omen here.
The Ace has dropped just two frames in his three matches this week, while he had a walkover following Anthony McGill’s withdrawal through illness.
Trump is fresh from a 5-0 rout of Mark Selby – his second whitewash of the week, having condemned Huang Jiahao to the same fate.
The world number two also beat Si Jiahui 5-2, and is just two more wins away from getting over the line at this event, having been runner-up to Kyren Wilson at the inaugural tournament two years ago when it was entitled the Xi’an Grand Prix.
Meanwhile, Wu has recovered from the brink of defeat at 4-3 down in his heldover match against Jamie Clarke, to stand two victories away from landing his first silverware as World champion.
The reigning Crucible king followed that up with a pair of 5-3 wins over Xu Si and Ricky Walden, which set up another showdown with beaten World finalist Shaun Murphy.
Just like in Sheffield and when they met in the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals, Wu would prevail in a deciding frame, as he bounced back from 3-2 down with breaks of 94, 121 and 117.
The Chinese has lost both his previous semi-final showdowns with Trump, but will hope to make it third time lucky with compatriot Yuan awaiting the winner in the final.
The match breaks off at 12.30pm (7.30pm local time) on Saturday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at Bao’an Sports Centre.
