Wu Yize goes head to head with compatriot Yuan Sijun on Sunday for the right to be crowned the 2026 Shenzhen Open champion.

The crowd at Bao’an Sports Centre are set for a fitting finale to a wonderful week at the rebranded event, with two home favourites doing battle for the top prize of £177,000.

World champion Wu is eyeing his first silverware since he was crowned the king of the Crucible in May, while Yuan is eyeing his breakthrough triumph in his maiden ranking event final.

Wu has got stronger as the week has progressed in Shenzhen, where he was in danger of falling at the first hurdle at 4-3 down against Jamie Clarke.

However, the world number four recovered to scrape through, before posting a pair of 5-3 wins over Xu Si and Ricky Walden.

He then beat Shaun Murphy in a deciding frame for the third time in 2026, having also done so in Shanghai and their epic Crucible showpiece.

If that was not enough, Wu avenged his Shanghai Masters semi-final defeat by Judd Trump, as he ran out a dominant 6-1 victor to book his place in a fifth career ranking final.

By contrast, this will be the biggest day of his opponent’s career, with Yuan the latest Chinese player to enjoy a groundbreaking run to a maiden ranking final.

The 26-year-old quietly went about his business on the outside tables, beating former European Masters champion Fan Zhengyi 5-1 and Zak Surety 5-2.

Yuan put another ranking event winner to the sword in the quarter-finals, as he hit two centuries on the way to a 5-2 victory over Michael Holt.

However, the world number 33 was put through the mill in his semi-final against Jimmy Robertson, who recovered from 3-0 down and eventually forced a decider.

Robertson appeared in control of the final frame when he laid a difficult snooker, from which he extracted 41 penalty point after Yuan failed to escape in eight successive attempts.

Nevertheless, the Chinese dusted himself down and eventually laid one of his own, before subsequently clearing to scrape over the line on the pink.

His reward is a showdown with the reigning World champion over the best of 19 frames, and the chance to officially enter the ranking event winners’ enclosure.

The match breaks off at 7am (2pm local time) on Sunday, before playing to a conclusion from 12.30pm (7.30pm local time) at Bao’an Sports Centre.
