Chris Wakelin continues his Shoot Out title defence when he faces Joe O’Connor in the second round on Friday.

Wakelin is the reigning champion at the Swansea Arena, having captured his first ranking title with victory over Julien Leclercq in last season’s final.

And he is now looking to become the first multiple winner of the unique single-frame event since it was established in 2011.

Wakelin battled past Pang Junxu on the final black in a tricky opener and things are unlikely to get any easier against O’Connor, who reached the Scottish Open final last term.

There are three other former champions remaining in the draw. Dominic Dale – the 2014 winner – faces Shaun Murphy, who is fresh from compiling the tournament’s first maximum break in round one, while 2021 champion Ryan Day and 2015 victor Michael White take on Ashley Carty and Peng Yisong respectively.

Plenty of other big names are looking to add their name to the roll of honour.

They include top seed Mark Allen, who faces Oliver Brown, while Kyren Wilson plays Mostafa Dorgham with the in-form International Championship winner Zhang Anda going up against Zak Surety.

Ali Carter locks horns with Alfie Burden as Mark Williams and Robert Milkins take on Hammad Miah and Oliver Lines respectively.

Williams (2022) and Milkins (2011) are among five former finalists still standing.

Last season’s runner-up Leclercq plays Cao Yupeng and 2020 finalist Zhou Yuelong faces Lukas Kleckers with Graeme Dott, who reached the showpiece in 2018, playing home favourite Jackson Page.

Meanwhile, youngsters Stan Moody and Shaun Liu will be looking to create more headlines. Moody, 17, goes up against Ian Burns as 13-year-old Liu, who is named after Murphy, locks horns with Dean Young.

Play gets under way at 1pm GMT on Friday with all matches contested over a single 10-minute frame at the Swansea Arena.
