Mark Allen and Ding Junhui face off in the Tour Championship quarter-finals for the second year running when they collide on Wednesday.

Ding was a 10-5 winner when the pair met in this event 12 months ago, hitting a century and a further nine breaks over 50 as he avenged his 10-7 defeat by Allen in that season’s UK Championship final.

The Dragon also prevailed in their most recent showdown, ironically ending the Pistol’s UK title defence in the opening round at the York Barbican Centre with a narrow 6-5 victory.

Ding went on to reach one of two finals this season, the other coming at the World Open just over a week ago, while he also made the last four at the World Grand Prix.

Meanwhile, for the second year running, Allen arrives at the Tour Championship with three titles already under his belt this term. Along with his triumph at the Champion of Champions, he has also been victorious at the Shoot Out and Players Championship.

The world number three is now looking to complete the Players Series set, having won the World Grand Prix last season. He recovered from a slow start against John Higgins, who he trailed 4-1 in the opening round, eventually winning four of the last five frames with breaks of 102, 93 and 100 to secure a 10-7 victory.

The match will be contested over the best of 19 frames at Manchester Central, with the winner facing either Judd Trump or Mark Williams in the Tour Championship semi-finals.

Play gets under way at 7pm BST on Wednesday with the opening eight frames, before playing to a conclusion from 7pm on Thursday.
