Three-time champion Ding Junhui faces Tom Ford in the opening Semi-Final of the 2022 UK Championship in York on Saturday.
Ding has continued his love affair with this prestigious Triple Crown tournament and is bidding to maintain his unbeaten record in UK Championship Semi-Finals.
The Chinese sensation, who first triumphed here in 2005 before adding further titles in 2009 and 2019, has returned to his brilliant best form after a lengthy spell in the doledrums.
The world number 38 sent shockwaves around the sporting world by inflicting Ronnie O’Sullivan’s first ever 6-0 whitewash defeat in a Triple Crown event on Friday, and will be determined to pick up from where he left off.
His run began with a 6-3 win over former world finalist Barry Hawkins, before thrashing Jamie Clarke 6-1 in the Last 16.
Ding now faces a player no stranger to this stage of the competition, with Ford having also made the Last Four in 2018.
The world number 32, who also won two qualifying matches to book his place in the main event, has seen off three-time champion John Higgins, last year’s runner-up Luca Brecel and reigning Welsh Open champion Joe Perry at the Barbican this week.
However, his only previous win against Ding came back in 2005 at the Grand Prix, and he has since suffered four consecutive defeats.
Ford is vying to reach only a second career ranking final, six years on from his run at the Paul Hunter Classic.
The match gets under way from 1pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames, with either Mark Allen or Jack Lisowski awaiting the winner in Sunday’s final.
