Judd Trump goes head to head with Neil Robertson on Saturday in what promises to be a blockbuster UK Championship semi-final showdown in York.
Two of the game’s greatest left-handers lock horns at the York Barbican Centre for the right to play either Shaun Murphy or Mark Selby in Sunday’s final.
The two players have previously contested a UK Championship semi-final, doing so in 2011, with Trump prevailing 9-7 on the way to winning his first title.
He was also a 6-3 winner when they met in the first round of last year’s event, before going on to lift the trophy again, so the Ace will hope that serves as a positive omen once more.
Although, Robertson was the victor in their most famous UK Championship encounter, winning 10-9 on the final pink in the 2020 showpiece.
The Australian had not won a match at the season’s opening Triple Crown since sealing his third crown, but ended the drought by defeating Julien Leclercq and International Championship winner Wu Yize for the loss of just three frames.
Robertson looked set for another dominant win at 5-1 up in the quarter-finals against Pang Junxu, who required three snookers in frame seven. However, the Thunder was pegged back by his opponent, before eventually scraping over the line 6-4.
This is now his third semi-final appearance in as many tournaments, and fifth at the UK Championship – winning three of his previous four and subsequently lifting the trophy.
Trump, meanwhile, has won four of his five UK Championship semi-finals, and is now just two more victories away from joining Robertson on three titles.
The Ace appears to be getting closer to ending his silverware drought, stretching back to when he doubled up in York 12 months ago.
This is his fourth semi-final in five events, following victories over Stephen Maguire, Si Jiahui and Ding Junhui, with Trump reeling off six straight frames from 2-0 down against the latter.
The match breaks off at 1pm GMT on Saturday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the York Barbican Centre.
