Ronnie O’Sullivan v Matthew Selt live stream | World Open 2026 preview
Ronnie O’Sullivan looks to maintain his perfect record against Matthew Selt when the pair lock horns in the Last 32 of the World Open on Wednesday.
One of the round’s standout ties sees a battle of the Essex cuemen, both of whom will be relatively fresh after receiving byes in the last 64.
O’Sullivan had been due to play India’s Ishpreet Singh Chadha following his 5-1 victory over Ross Muir, which he completed with back-to-back centuries of 113 and 114.
The Rocket is aiming to build momentum ahead of his latest quest for that record-breaking eighth Crucible title, having only appeared sporadically throughout this season.
O’Sullivan’s standout performance of the campaign came at the Saudi Arabia Masters, where he memorably compiled two maximum breaks during his semi-final victory over Chris Wakelin, before suffering a narrow 10-9 defeat against Neil Robertson in the showpiece.
The 50-year-old won this event when it was entitled the Grand Prix in 2004. Six years later, in the first staging of the World Open, he hit a controversial 147 against Mark King – notoriously being convinced by referee Jan Verhaas to pot the final black, having protested the lack of prize money on offer.
O’Sullivan also made a maximum in the final frame of his first ever meeting with Selt at the 2014 UK Championship, and has gone on to win each of their subsequent four encounters since.
The world number 38 capitalised on David Gilbert’s withdrawal to reach this stage, and now looks to progress to the last 16 of the event for the third time.
Selt does not arrive in his latest contest with the Rocket in the strongest of form, though. Despite reaching the Scottish Open semi-finals before Christmas, it represents his only venture beyond the last 16 of any event this season.
Not only that, but his narrow 5-4 victory over Liam Davies at last month’s qualifiers in Barnsley marks his only win in a ranking tournament so far this calendar year.
A showdown with either former champion Shaun Murphy or local favourite Xu Si awaits the winner of this clash in the Last 16.
The match breaks off at 6am GMT (2pm local time) on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of nine frames at Yushan Sport Centre.
