Ronnie O’Sullivan v Lyu Haotian live stream | World Open 2024 preview

Ronnie O’Sullivan will aim to avoid a third straight defeat against Lyu Haotian when they face off in the World Open last 32 on Wednesday.

Although the most successful player of the season with five titles to his name, O’Sullivan shall be wary as he locks horns with one of the home favourites at the Yushan Sports Centre.

World number 28 Lyu was a 2-0 winner in their 2021 WST Pro Series encounter, but enjoyed success over the Rocket on a much greater scale earlier this season.

Indeed, breaks of 76 and 66 helped him to a commanding 5-1 victory in the quarter-finals of the inaugural Wuhan Open, where his run to the semi-finals represents his best performance of the campaign.

Nevertheless, O’Sullivan will be the favourite to prevail and remain on course for his sixth silverware of 2023-24.

Fresh from triumphing at the inaugural World Masters of Snooker earlier this month, the world number one hit back-to-back centuries – taking his tally for the season to 50 – and a break of 87 on the way to a 5-3 win over Michael White in the opening round.

Meanwhile Lyu, who has suffered first-round defeats in two of his last three events, was on the brink of another early exit at 4-2 down against Aaron Hill, but rallied to prevail in a decider.

Despite a slight blip in recent weeks, the Chinese is desperate for a return to the form that saw him stun O’Sullivan earlier in the season, while also reaching the European Masters quarter-finals and the last 16 of a further three tournaments.

The winner of this match will play Hossein Vafaei in the last 16 of the World Open.

Play gets under way at 11.30am GMT on Wednesday and will be contested over the best of nine frames at the Yushan Sports Centre.
