O’Sullivan plays Lyu on Friday (Zhai Zheng/Xinhua/Alamy Live News)

Ronnie O’Sullivan is seeking his 10th straight win in China this season when he faces Lyu Haotian in the Wuhan Open quarter-finals on Friday.

The Rocket is looking to land back-to-back titles on Chinese soil, having maintained his Shanghai Masters defence last month.

He is certainly in the form to do so and end his 17-month wait for ranking silverware, with four centuries in as many matches.

The seven-time World champion, whose most recent triumph came at the Crucible in 2022, has enjoyed a trio of 5-1 victories over Ken Doherty, Mark Davis and Yuan SiJun.

Although, he was close to elimination at 4-3 down against Pang Junxu in round three, but produced timely breaks of 117 and 64 to scrape over the line.

O’Sullivan will now face his third successive Chinese opponent in Lyu, who is appearing in his second ranking quarter-final of the season after also reaching the European Masters last eight.

The world number 41 has also been in solid form this week, dropping just five frames across his three matches.

Lyu opened with a 5-2 victory over reigning Shoot-Out champion Chris Wakelin and swept Ben Mertens aside 5-1, before hitting two centuries on the way to a 5-2 win over English Open finalist Zhang Anda.

The Chinese has previously beaten O’Sullivan – albeit in the 2021 WST Pro Series. Nevertheless, that will stand him in good stead as he looks to claim a scalp here.

The winner of this match will play either Mark Allen or Ali Carter in the semi-finals of the Wuhan Open.

Play gets under way at 12.30pm BST on Friday and will be contested over the best of nine frames at Wuhan Gymnasium.
