Trump reaches Wuhan Open quarter-finals after 10th straight win
Judd Trump continued his impressive form as he overcame Barry Hawkins 5-2 to reach the Wuhan Open quarter-finals on Thursday.
The Ace arrived in Wuhan fresh from ending his 18-month ranking silverware drought at the English Open, where he recovered from 7-3 down to beat Zhang Anda 9-7 in the final.
And the Bristolian has picked up from he left off, notching up his 10th straight victory with a top break of 100 as he saw off Hawkins in the last 16.
Trump, who also had runs of 97, 76, 67 and 59, subsequently avenged his defeat by the Hawk in the European Masters final in August.
That booked a last-eight date with Tom Ford, who hit a timely break of 89 in the deciding frame as he overturned a 4-3 deficit to scrape past Xiao Guodong.
Elsewhere, Ronnie O’Sullivan remained on course for a second successive Chinese-based title after a 5-1 win over Yuan SiJun.
The Rocket, who recently triumphed at the Shanghai Masters, hit breaks of 130, 64 and 62 to set up a clash with Lyu Haotian after the latter made two centuries in a 5-2 success over English Open runner-up Zhang.
Mark Allen had runs of 76, 61 and 54 on the way to a 5-2 victory against fellow left-hander Jack Lisowski.
The Pistol will play Ali Carter in the last eight, with the Captain having swept Liam Highfield aside 5-1.
Wu Yize is through to only the second ranking quarter-final of his career after edging out Stephen Maguire 5-4.
The Chinese teenager recovered from 3-1 down to lead 4-3. But despite going to a decider, he held his nerve to prevail on a re-spotted black.
Next up for him is Irish youngster Aaron Hill, who is through to his first ranking quarter-final after a high break of 136 helped him to a 5-3 victory over He Guoqiang.
