Ronnie O’Sullivan and Kyren Wilson go head to head in a mouth-watering Xi’an Grand Prix semi-final on Saturday.
Fans can look forward to a blockbuster at Qujiang E-sports Centre, as the game’s most successful player locks horns with the reigning World champion.
O’Sullivan has won both their previous meetings in China, most recently a 10-6 success in the 2018 Shanghai Masters semi-finals.
Although, Wilson was a 6-5 winner in their other semi-final encounter at the 2020 Welsh Open, while he also prevailed 6-5 in their most recent showdown in the 2021 UK Championship quarter-finals.
In fact, all three of the Warrior’s victories in nine meetings with the Rocket have come in a deciding frame, and this contest has all the potential to go the distance once more.
O’Sullivan is gearing up for his 93rd career ranking semi-final, while it is his second appearance at this stage of as many tournaments following his run at last month’s Shanghai Masters.
The seven-time World champion saw off Wang Yuchen, Bulcsu Revesz, Yuan Sijun and Hossein Vafaei for the loss of just three frames, but was forced to dig deep in the quarter-finals against Matthew Selt, who he eventually defeated in a decider after he was pegged back from 4-2 up.
Wilson has also come through a deciding frame on his way to reaching the last four, recovering from 4-2 down against Jimmy Robertson in the last 16.
The reigning Crucible king, who also defeated Haris Tahir, He Guoqiang and Ricky Walden earlier in the week, endured no such difficulty in the quarter-finals, though, with a top break of 115 completing a 5-1 rout of Xu Si.
A showdown with either Judd Trump or Daniel Wells awaits the winner of this clash in Sunday’s final.
The match gets under way at 7am BST (2pm local time) on Saturday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at Qujiang E-sports Centre.
