Judd Trump looks to continue his blistering start to the season when he faces Daniel Wells for a place in Sunday’s Xi’an Grand Prix final.
The Ace has come flying out of the blocks this campaign, winning each of his opening nine matches while also lifting the Shanghai Masters along the way.
Trump, who won five ranking titles last term, has continued that momentum at Qujiang E-sports Centre, where he has dropped just four frames in as many matches this week.
Ma Hailong, Lyu Haotian, Jak Jones and David Gilbert have all been put to the sword by the Bristolian, who has now won 24 of his last 25 matches in China.
Trump has also prevailed in four of his five previous meetings with Wells, though the latter was victorious in their most recent clash at the 2023 Welsh Open.
While this marks the Ace’s 62nd ranking semi-final appearance, it is only a third for his opponent.
Indeed, regardless of the result, Wells is set for the biggest pay day of his career thus far after matching his performances at the 2018 Scottish Open and 2023 Shoot Out.
The world number 65 made a statement of intent by defeating Ali Carter – a runner-up in last season’s Wuhan Open and Masters – to qualify. He then overcame Julien Leclercq, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Dominic Dale, before producing an inspired comeback from 3-1 down to stun Barry Hawkins 5-3 in the quarter-finals.
A showdown with either Ronnie O’Sullivan or Kyren Wilson awaits the winner of this encounter in Sunday’s final.
The match gets under way at 12.30pm BST (7.30pm local time) on Saturday and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at Qujiang E-sports Centre.
