The field of players for the 2020 World Snooker Championship has been confirmed, with 128 players set it battle it out at the qualifiers for the right to reach The Crucible.

The world’s top 16 ranked players will be joined in the World Championship by a further 16 qualifiers at the sport’s spiritual Sheffield home from July 31 to August 16.

The qualifying rounds, which are due to take place from July 21-28 at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, are open to all tour professionals ranked outside of the top 16, as well as a minimum of 16 WPBSA invites.

More than 15 players have withdrawn from the World Championship due to ether travel or visa issues and have been replaced by the eight players competing in the Challenge Tour Play-Off event (July 20), yhe top eight players from the 2019 Q School ranking list and players invited by the WPBSA.

Notable absentees include Hong Kong’s Marco Fu, China’s Xiao Guodong, Zhou Yuelong and Zhao Xintong and Thailand’s James Wattana.

The top 16 seeds for the main event are confirmed, with defending champion Judd Trump seeded number one, five-time World Champion Ronnie O’Sullivan seeded six and UK Champion Ding Junhui seeded eleven.

World number 17 Joe Perry will be the highest ranked player involved in the qualifiers and will be joined by the likes Ali Carter, Gary Wilson, Thepchaiya Un-Nooh, Graeme Dott and Luca Brecel.

Twelve-time Women’s World Champion Reanne Evans will return to the qualifiers, as will six-time world finalist Jimmy White and 1997 World Champion Ken Doherty.

The draw for the qualifying rounds is expected to be confirmed by the end of the week.
