Kyren Wilson looks to upset the history books when he faces Mark Selby in a mouth-watering English Open fourth-round clash on Thursday.
Two of the game’s grittiest players go toe to toe at Brentwood Centre for a place in the quarter-finals of the season’s first Home Nations event.
On paper, this is a tough match to call, though the head-to-head record is surprisingly lopsided in Selby’s favour.
Indeed, the Jester has prevailed in all eight previous meetings between the players (excluding the Championship League). That includes a 6-1 rout in the second round of last month’s China Open.
Selby went on to lift the trophy in Taiyuan, and arrives in this contest having won 16 of his last 18 matches.
A quarter-finalist in Wuhan, he then reached the final at last week’s British Open, eventually succumbing 10-6 to Jak Jones.
The four-time World champion has just about kept his momentum going this week, after coming through successive deciding frames against Ricky Walden and Zhang Anda.
Selby beat the latter having trailed 49-0 in the final frame, with a 39 clearance seeing him pinch victory on the black.
Wilson was also a 4-3 winner on the final black on Wednesday, courtesy of a 39 clearance that denied Wuhan Open champion Chang Bingyu.
The Warrior opened with a comfortable 4-1 win over Mateusz Baranowski, who has playing his first professional match on the main televised table.
Runner-up to Judd Trump at the Shanghai Masters, where he was the defending champion, Wilson is now looking to reach only his second ranking quarter-final of the calendar year.
A showdown with either Ding Junhui or Joe O’Connor awaits the winner of this contest in the quarter-finals.
The match breaks off at 1pm BST on Thursday and will be contested over the best of seven frames at Brentwood Centre.
