Ronnie O’Sullivan pulls out of 2023 Scottish Open
Ronnie O’Sullivan has withdrawn from the 2023 Scottish Open in Edinburgh for medical reasons.
The world number one was due to face Liam Graham in the qualifying round on Monday, but Graham will now receive a bye into the main draw – where he will meet Belgium’s Ben Mertens at the Meadowbank Sports Centre.
O’Sullivan had already pulled out of five events this season, including last month’s Champion of Champions, and has largely focused his playing schedule around the more lucrative tournaments in China.
He did, however, claim a record-extending eighth UK Championship title in York little over a week ago – marking his 40th career ranking title and a first since the 2022 World Championship.
O’Sullivan is next due to compete at The Masters at London’s Alexandra Palace in January – where he has been drawn to face Ding Junhui in a repeat of the recent UK Championship final.
